Trezor.io/start – Getting Started with Trezor®

The official guide to securing your cryptocurrency with a Trezor® hardware wallet

Welcome to Trezor.io/start

Trezor.io/start is the official and secure onboarding page for setting up your Trezor® hardware wallet. This guide is designed to help you initialize your device, protect your private keys, and understand the fundamentals of self-custody.

Trezor allows you to store cryptocurrencies offline, reducing exposure to online threats such as malware, phishing attacks, and unauthorized access. By using a hardware wallet, you maintain full ownership and control over your digital assets.

Why Choose a Trezor® Hardware Wallet?

Unlike custodial services or software wallets, Trezor never stores your private keys online. Your cryptographic keys are generated and protected directly on the device.

  • Offline storage for maximum security
  • Open-source firmware and transparent design
  • Support for hundreds of cryptocurrencies and tokens
  • Physical confirmation for every transaction

Step 1: Visit Trezor.io/start

Always begin by manually typing Trezor.io/start into your browser. This helps protect you from phishing websites that impersonate official wallet setup pages.

From this page, you will select your Trezor model, download Trezor Suite, and follow guided instructions for device verification and setup.

Step 2: Connect and Verify Your Device

Connect your Trezor to your computer or supported mobile device using the included cable. Trezor Suite will automatically detect your device and begin the verification process.

Device verification ensures that your hardware wallet is genuine, untampered with, and running official software.

Step 3: Install Official Firmware

New devices require firmware installation. Firmware updates are cryptographically signed and verified to ensure integrity and security.

Important: Only install firmware through Trezor Suite or the official Trezor.io/start page. Never download firmware from third-party sources.

Step 4: Create Your Wallet & Recovery Seed

When creating a new wallet, your Trezor generates a recovery seed consisting of 12, 18, or 24 words. This seed is the only way to recover your funds if your device is lost or damaged.

Write the recovery words down on paper and store them securely offline. Do not photograph, scan, or store them digitally.

Animation: Recovery words appear one by one on the device screen, then are locked inside a secure vault icon.

Step 5: Secure Access with PIN and Passphrase

To enhance protection, you will set a PIN code that prevents unauthorized physical access. Advanced users can also enable a passphrase, adding an extra layer of security to the wallet.

These protections ensure that even if your device is stolen, your assets remain secure.

Managing Crypto with Trezor Suite

Once setup is complete, Trezor Suite allows you to manage your cryptocurrencies securely. You can send, receive, and track assets while confirming every transaction on your device.

Supported assets include Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Cardano (ADA), and many ERC-20 tokens, depending on model and firmware version.
